About Us

About Us

Dobbs Ferry Karate has been teaching children and adults traditional martial arts for over 35 years. We have been teaching students from all over Westchester County and beyond. We pride ourselves in being one of the longest operating karate schools in Westchester County. We hope you will take a few minutes to check out our website and find out a little more about us!

Classes run six days a week with a very accommodating schedule for any family trying to juggle the craziness of our everyday lives. We offer programs for ages 3 all the way to teens and adults.

All of the students in our Dojo (training hall) will learn the basics/fundamentals of a traditional Japanese martial art. Our goal is for every class to be fun, different yet challenging and rewarding. We want our students to become strong, confident leaders both inside and outside of the dojo.

One of the great things about a karate class is that you are not alone! Everyone in class has either gone through it before or is going through it now. We have all experienced the various levels and are able to relate to all the students know matter what experience level. We all start at White Belt, with this belt comes Humility, and strive to work our way to the top (Black Belt – with this belt comes dedication and meditation – a time to reflect back and share knowledge).

We strive to keep our classes discipline based. Meaning that the students are to follow the old principles and values that are associated with learning karate from hundreds of years ago (respect, respecting elders/teachers, integrity, maturity). Our students not only take an active role in the dojo, but also in the community. Giving back has always been an important part of a good martial artist. You can always find us volunteering for local events, sponsoring youth baseball, teaching self-defense to the girl scouts and local colleges as well as our fundraising events every year.

We look forward to seeing you on the mat!

DOJO KUN (School Oath)

We give thanks for the knowledge we are about to receive.
We hope that we may complete today’s session without serious injury to ourselves and to our opponents.
Once again we dedicate ourselves to Ryu Rensh-Dan, its methods, techniques and philosophies.

  • Ryu Renshi-Dan is a way of life.
  • We shall always practice humility.
  • We shall always show and display proper respect for the other martial arts.
  • We shall always practice patience.
  • We shall never abuse our knowledge, fighting only in defense of ourselves, our loved ones and the weak.
  • We shall always keep the fighting spirit of Ryu Renshi-Dan, its methods, techniques and philosophies close to us.
